As a fan I was happy to hear Gil Scott-Heron’s newest work getting well deserved attention when it came out. His music had stood out to me from the first time I heard “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” back in the day, and I was hoping for much more from this amazing artist. “His material spanned soul, jazz, blues and the spoken word and his 1970s work heavily influenced the US hip-hop and rap scenes.” Sad to say the reluctant godfather of rap died tonight at age 62 in New York. Above are a couple of videos from a few years ago.
